Bozo has issues barking at fences, leash reactivity to dogs, leash pulling etc. Loses it on targets in the back seat of the car.
Owners were getting frustrated trying to walk her due to her reactivity – they thought aggression, so they basically gave up trying to walk her. Bozo barks at everything behind the fence that he can’t see.
Went down for the assessment, they had bozo back tied to the garage in a muzzle, I didn’t expect it. Let Monty in the yard, Bozo reacted but the bark told me it was excitement. Told the owner to take the muzzle off and just let him go – Monty can handle it. And he did.
Bozo needs exercise, both mental and physical. Took him for a walk, asked the owners to follow from a distance. Bozo still pulled me a little, but initial walk isn’t about structure for me, I need to see everything the dog is going to do without me trying to control.
Walked him to a nearby tennis court, owners said he would bark at the moving targets. He didn’t bark at all under my care and I’m not trying to control him. Bozo simply sat down and watched the goings on – when the owners came in however, he started reacting. So it’s not the dog, it’s the owners.
Took Bozo out for a bike ride, well me on bike and he’s running beside me. He did great, kept pace – biked hard for a couple of miles. Unfortunately on the way back, I got a little lost and passed the house. Bozo didn’t forget and stopped dead in his tracks, pulled me down. I don’t blame the dog for that at all. Bozo was tired now, back in the yard all is quiet. People walked by the fence, Bozo didn’t care. I walked by the fence ducked down and knocking on the fence all the way, nothing from Bozo.
Let’s go for a drive, see about the barking in the car. Husband drove, wife in the back seat – Bozo was quiet as can be because the wife was in the back seat. Insecurity shows through.
I highly recommended a treadmill to these owners, and they followed through putting him on it a couple of times a day. Bozo is so much better.
Bozo’s first time on a treadmill.
