Herve Pupier – aggressive Malinois

Aggression isn’t a diagnosis – aggression is a symptom. Watch this video, it clearly shows the underlying cause of this Malinois’ aggression. Insecurity is the diagnosis here, not aggression. Insecurity is the cause of the aggression.

Herve’s videos are in French, but you really shouldn’t need to speak french to understand what is happening.

I’m always asking trainers to remove the owner – but in videos on youtube, most times they don’t. Owners roll the dog in, the dog is in a strange place, the owner is nervous and the dog is in full protect mode – and showing “aggression”. Now the trainer is only focused on fixing the aggression – he won’t see the insecurity. Now wrap an e-collar or prong around the dogs neck.

Removing the owner takes away the need for the dog to protect anything. As clearly seen in this video – Herve approaches the Malinois with a bite sleeve and the owner is holding the dog. The dog bites the sleeve in protection of the owner.

Now watch what happens when the owner is removed. The dog starts showing the underlying cause for the aggression – insecurity.

Do we focus on the aggression? Or the dogs insecurity? This dog is well trained, very obedient – but as you can clearly see – not well behaved. This dog likely got diagnosed “aggressive” by trainers – but aggression isn’t a diagnosis.
