Best Salve for dogs – and people.

People are always asking what they can do about dry dog pads and dry skin. The answer is home made. You can find all the products locally at “Earth’s General Store” @ https://earthsgeneralstore.ca/ – the physical address is 9605 Whyte Ave.

You’ll need to buy organic coconut oil and organic cocoa butter and a small bottle of peppermint essential oils. Cocoa butter is bought in hard blocks – it’s not cheap but it goes a long way.

Buy what you need – the recipe will be 50/50 coconut oil to cocoa butter – melt gently in a double boiler – or put a small pot into a larger pot containing water and bring it to a slow boil. Once fully melted and blended, allow to cool some – and add peppermint essential oils to taste. Yes, to taste, the product is edible.

Allow to cool further until it starts to harden – then use a hand mixer to fluff it up so to speak. Put it in whatever containers you have – the stuff lasts forever and doesn’t seem to go bad.

Monty loves to eat the mix, there is no theobromine in cocoa butter so it is safe for dogs. You can apply it direct to the dogs pads. I like to melt some in warm water and pour it over the dog after a bath. Leave in, dry the dog and he’ll smell like mint chocolate.

For people it’s the same, use on skin, eat it, whatever. it’s the best personal lubricant you’ll ever find.

It’s a play on this recipe.
