Do Harnesses Cause A Dog To Pull?

Harnesses are designed to allow dogs to pull, I haven’t seen much evidence to show that they cause dogs to pull. If your dog is dragging you down the street, it’s not going to matter if it’s in a harness or a flat collar or a piece of dental floss for that matter – it’s going to pull. The dog is excited, matters not what the dog is wearing.

I use a harness and a 16 foot extendable leash on Monty most times, the very items many trainers recommend you don’t use. His harness is comfortable, doesn’t touch his throat at all. It’s surprising how many people comment that I shouldn’t be using these items, especially on a small dog. But yet, when the watch Monty, there is nothing else that they can say.

The harness doesn’t cause him to pull at all. The following video shows it, and I can post many more. Monty isn’t a puller, it simply doesn’t matter what I walk him on, we’re having a calm walk. He typically walks in front of me exploring the world. Do I care if he walks in front of me instead of at a heel? No, I don’t.
