Your dog is a carnivore, Lets feed it.

I started raw feeding some 16 years ago – raw is just what it sounds like. Raw meat, raw bones, raw organ meats in a balanced diet. Dogs are carnivores by nature – yes, they will eat pretty much anything but there isn’t much nutrition in tennis balls or socks. They have no real dietary need for grains, carbs, starches etc – if they did, my dogs wouldn’t have survived – but they thrive.

I made the switch initially after researching some of the issues my dog Tia had. She just wasn’t healthy, ended up with a bladder full of stones and other issues. Like many dog owners, I bought cheap dog food from the grocery stores only to find out that the food was likely causing her issues. Sadly, she got into mouse poison and died at the young age of 3 years, I’m still not over her death.

There are many lies in the dog food industry but unfortunately, many people trust these corporations to do the best for their dogs. Admitedly, I did trust them as well – but not anymore. Corn for example is touted as a great protein, but corn is man made and hasn’t been around long enough for humans to evolve to digest it – let alone dogs. Corn is a cheap filler, and I guarantee you that your dog isn’t getting ripe ears of peaches and cream. They are getting the leftovers from highly processed “dent” or “field” corn – and this stuff is indigestible if eaten whole.

Corn is also cheap, something like $150 a ton. What would a ton of beef, pork or chicken cost in comparison? This is the reason they can sell dog food in these beautiful expensive bags and still make a killer profit.

But I digress.

If you’re really interested, try to find a documentary called “Pet Fooled”. It’s a serious glimpse into the dog food industry and what we are feeding our pets.

One of the better raw feeding groups on Facebook is Raw Feeding 101 – Learn To Feed Raw – it’s a good group of people with a vested interest in their dogs and tend not to be judgmental,
