Meet Cesar – The “Aggressive” Dog That Isn’t.

Cesars owners contacted me about his aggression. Went over for an assessment and he jumped on me and literally tried to hug me. I met him in the back yard one on one, the owners were in the house. Brought Monty in, zero aggression, all curiousity.

Brought the owners out for a talk. They explained that they took Cesar to PetSmart for training, but the lady trainer said he’s too aggressive to be there and lined up at home training. Well, the trainer went to the house, met Cesar while the owners had him on leash and I guess throwing treats his way didn’t work. Big surprise. I know this trainer, she loves my dog and asks me to bring Monty over to meet the dogs she’s training. Any respect I had for her is out the window.

She recommended Cesar be put on Prozac – and the vet didn’t question it at all. 6 months he was on the highest dose of prozac that a dog his size could be on. He was panting hard when I first met him, can see the confusion but still no aggression.

I refuse to work with a dog on prozac, one doesn’t know if it’s the drug I’m working with or the dog. Had them wean Cesar off the medication on vets advice and booked a new assessment and dog park for 2 weeks down the road. Cesar did wonderful during the assessment, very chill. Lets hit a dog park.

Does this look like a dog that needs prozac? You tell me – there is zero aggression in this dog. Yes, he does show his insecurity but he did fine.
