Robert Cabral – I’m Calling You A Liar. B.F Skinner? That’s Hilarious. Lets Talk Konrad Most.

If you watch Robert Cabrals video on “why science doesn’t belong in dog training” – you will understand why I call the man a liar – and trust me, I would say it to his face. I can’t abide by this anymore. And Robert isn’t the only one. Ivan Balabanov and others are lying to you as well.

First of all – don’t think I’m picking on balanced trainers. They use 4 quadrants of this garbage system. Positive Reinforcement uses 1 quadrant of the same garbage system. It’s all the same garbage – so why are they fighting over it? Views and followers equate to more sponsorship money – follow the money.

Quote from Robert direct from the video…
but punishment is the scientific term under Skinner and the four quadrants.

This is the biggest lie in dog training – that B.F Skinner created the quadrants of dog training. Skinner had NOTHING to do with the quadrants – Skinner openly opposed punishment. Why are you blaming a man that openly opposed punishment for the Positive and Negative Punishment quadrants? You’re a liar. Skinner would tell you that the very object of the science of behavoiur is discovering its causes. I don’t see any trainer out there concerned about the cause of behaviour — it’s all about suppression of behaviour which WILL lead to control and management. And positive reinforcement to balanced – it’s all about control and management – which will lead to destroying your life. Do they care? Not at all. Nobody is taking accountability for the damage done to dog owner – but yet, dog owners are the very ones blamed when the system fails.

And I love how you talk about “it’s us versus them” – I have to ask straight up Robert – why do you want dog owners at each others throats – while you lie to them? You know full well the damage that trainers lies are causing. So why? I know why – because Skinner is the science. Konrad Most – there was no science to him – this is why you claim that science doesn’t belong in dog training – because there is no science to what you are pushing. Did Konrad have a PhD in Psycology? No – he trained German Shepherds for WW1 – but YOU want to bring this garbage into the family home. That’s a great idea isn’t it?

In this video – Robert mentions “discomfort” in dog training 9 times – and just one example. Direct quote from the video. You won’t read this in Skinners’ books.
“There’s a degree of discomfort that comes with it and discomfort has immense growth potential and when we start to get away from creating discomfort in dogs through training or by training then we’re taking away the dog’s opportunity for growth what we’re going to end up with is dogs that lay on the couch watch Jerry Springer all day and eat Cheetos and that’s not what we need.

Where does this come from? Straight out of Konrad Mosts Books – not Skinners. Don’t believe me? Here are some quotes from the book itself – Dog Training – A Manual. Kondrad mentions discomfort in dog training 32 times in his book. What did Konrad mean by discomfort? Lets get into it – and it’s going to sound SOOOOO familiar to you when you look at balanced training again and what Robert does.

Mind you, Konrad is basically the father of Schutzhund – but trainers have been bringing this nonsense into your home to apply it to Fido the family dog – through the quadrants. This is why we everything from Chihuahua’s to Mastiffs wearing prongs and e-collars.

First of all – how did Konrad view a dog? The newest science today – Dr. Greg Berns – says that dogs are intelligent and sentient creatures with a full gamut of emotions. Berns is watching dogs brains live and in color in MRI. But Konrad – and this is going to sound familiar too. Just a dumb animal right?

Just what are inducements? a thing that persuades or influences someone to do something. Well, inducements in the book are choke chains, prong collars, throw chains, throw sticks, switches – yes, to hit the dog with. Mind you, the e-collar wasn’t invented til the 60’s – otherwise, I’m sure they would be included. Now, discomfort in dog training is discussed throughout the book.

How is Konrad applying inducements – just one example. Today we call it crank and yank. Sound familiar? And the dog is in a “spikey collar” by the way – the prong.

Leerburg sells the book – how do they describe this book? https://leerburg.com/955.htm

Today’s dog trainer can trace the roots of modern training to Training Dogs by Colonel Konard Most. Written in Germany in 1910, Training Dogs influenced how both dogs and trainers were taught in Europe and the United States for the next 50 years. It contains valuable and historically significant information.

21st century trainers and behaviorists will find it amazing to realize that early in the 20th century Konard Most was using and applying behavioral training principles with dogs long before B.F. Skinner! Most also created systematic and scientific method to teach trainers how to train the dog and his “Theory of Training” is a classic in the field. While Most’s methods may be viewed as harsh by modern dog trainers, the theory behind it was revolutionary for it’s time and it still applied today.

Long before Skinner – yep. So why do trainers blame B.F Skinner for all this garbage? That’s quite simple.

Skinner proved Konrad wrong. Skinner proved that the causes of human behaviour are no different from the dog. Skinner did experiments on animals in a lab in order to understand US – the human animal was his target – not the dog. Skinner proved that treats and tools aren’t necessary for the human animal – but yet, trainers want to apply it to the dog.

Where everything went sideways? Dog “trainers” jumped into the behavioral ring with their treats, clickers, tools, nonsensical opinion based protocols and garbage “quadrants of dog training” – and that is when everything went sideways.

Behaviourists are supposed to be the very ones working with the behaviours – not trainers. But all behaviourists learn is the quadrants of dog training that are based on Konrad Most – not B.F Skinner.

Have we got problems in dog training? Yeah – and it begins with dog trainers.

Feel free to share – especially with trainers. I would love to hear their thoughts on the matter.
