Outside of a truly outward aggressive dog (which is very rare), reactivity encompasses everything else. Dogs that strike out in a moment, growling, bearing teeth because they are afraid, insecure, frustrated, whatever – this is not true aggression – this is showing aggression. Aggression in a moment does not equate to an aggressive dog. If your trainer is telling you that you have an aggressive dog, and focus on the aggression, you need a second opinion.
We need to stop focusing on issues, and understand the reason for the issues and generally dogs are pretty easy to work with. Once the owner sees the dog is capable with proper handling, they will learn to trust the dog again. That is a beautiful thing to witness.
If you have a reactive dog, feel free to contact me. I don’t charge for phone calls.
